Picking the Right Mattress
Mattresses are large expenses, but they are important investments. The quality of sleep we get each night can determine our productivity and mood throughout the entire day. But we can’t go out and throw thousands of dollars around to test out multiple mattresses. We can help you narrow down the list and find the mattress that's right for you!
When to Replace Your Mattress
Not all mattresses have to be replaced as early as others. Pillow tops and waterbeds are the two that usually must be replaced in 7 to 8 years. Other mattresses like latex, memory foam, or hybrid usually last upwards of 10 years.
The single most important question to ask yourself when deciding to buy a new mattress is: what is the quality of sleep I get each night? Sometimes, mattresses need to be replaced quicker than their suggested replacement times. Our bodies change, and therefore, the way we use our mattresses change, too.
It is time to get a new mattress if you:
- find yourself constantly waking in the middle of the night
- feel restless in the morning
- wake up with pain in your back or neck
While mattresses are not the only determinant of quality of sleep, they play a key role in our rest. Be honest with yourself here, because a new mattress can change your every day attitude.
Working Around Your Budget
There is no single number we can give for your budget. The best advice we can give
Remember, though, that more money doesn’t always mean higher quality. Certain sellers will mark up mattress prices up to 1000% their original cost. Here at Jubilee, we keep our prices honest, so you can get the most out of each dollar.
Mattress type
There are a handful of types of mattresses that are right for different people. We’ll give you a brief rundown of the most popular, but don’t be afraid to do a bit more research if one catches your interest.
- Pillow-top: these mattresses are the best for those who want some extra padding. They are known for providing a softer feel but can be a bit costlier.
- Innerspring: these mattresses are made from coils, which mean they are a very affordable option. These mattresses also tend to be durable for longer than other mattress types. This bed also allows for the most circulation of air, so you’ll be cooler throughout the night.
-
Memory foam: this type of mattress conforms to the shape of the body and isolates movement. This means it is ideal for partners sleeping
on the same bed. Memory foam does, however, absorb heat quicker than other mattresses. It does not cool the body as easily as others.
- Latex; cooling and responsiveness are what you’ll get from these types of mattresses. They can relieve discomfort in certain pressure points, and the material is resistant to mildew and mold.
Firmness
Firmness is important to consider in relation to the type of sleeper you are. For example, for those that spend the most time on their backs and stomachs, a medium to a medium hold is ideal. Stomach sleepers should seek out a soft to medium hold.
If you don’t know which type you are, consider spending a few nights staying in your current bed to find out. Firmness can be incredibly important to your sleep. If you find out you often switch types, go for a medium hold. It won’t be ideal for all always sleeping on your back or always sleeping on your side. But, it will be a great middle for you switch often.
We hope we provided you with everything you need to get the best mattress for you. From Jubilee, we wish you luck in finding a mattress and a perfect night’s rest when you do.
