Warm Up to Winter – How to Make Your Home Cozy and Ready for Cooler Weather

Every person has some specific ideas about what coziness means. But most will agree that a cozy house gives a sense of warmth, relaxation, contentment, and comfort. When you are cooped up indoors on cold winter days, you want there to be a warm ambiance that makes you feel cozy and comfortable. Here are some simple yet effective ways to warm up the winter and enhance the coziness quotient in your home.

1. Get the Fire Going

If you have a fireplace in your home, get it inspected and maintained well before winter sets in. It will help to ensure that your house is comfortable and sung. Keep all the essential supplies and tools handy so that you can start the blaze quickly. You can also deck your mantel with various knick-knacks to create a comfortable and inviting ambiance in the living room.

2. Close the Window Shutters or Drapes

During the summer months, you may be opening up the shutters or pulling back the drapes. However, most window treatments have operable rods. During the winter months, you can pull the drapes and close shutters (if you have them). Not only will they help to keep the cold and drafts out, but also add coziness to the space. They lend a textured look to the room and create snug indoor areas.

3. Rugs

Some rooms in your home maybe have hardwood or tile floors. While these surfaces have a classic appeal, they make the indoor spaces colder. Place rugs in various areas in your home; they add warmth and comfort underfoot and lend a sense of luxury to indoors, especially during wintertime. You can also increase the depth and warmth of a space by layering rugs.

4. Throws and Blankets

Adding throws made of super-soft fabrics such as cotton or cashmere is a great way to create a cozy atmosphere in your home. Place throw blankets in various rooms, so you can quickly access one when you get chilly. Keep a few in the guest bedroom or even your master bedroom for those midday naps. You can opt for bright-colored blankets to add a cheery look to the indoor areas during the dreary winter months.

5. Place Diffusers in the Rooms

Incorporating scent into the indoor spaces is another way to create a comfortable and cozy atmosphere in your home. However, it’s best to avoid using synthetic and harmful air fresheners. Place aromatic candles or add essential oils like clove, cinnamon, frankincense, etc. to diffusers. Create combinations of essential oils that suit your preferences. These natural products are a great way to scent your home, especially when you need to keep the windows shut during the cold winter months.

6. The Right Kind of Lighting Matters

Use the light layering technique to create a cozy and comfortable ambiance. Make sure your house has various lighting features like floor and table lamps in different areas. Use dimmers to control the lights and create comfort zones in your home. The dimmers help you change the mood of a room using the level of light you want from your ceiling and overhead lights. Around the holiday season, you can add soft white string lights to the indoor spaces and these will also help to create a warm and cozy atmosphere.

These are just a few ways in which you can create cozy indoor spaces during the winter months. It doesn't take much planning or any expensive or special items to add warmth and the comfort factor to your home.
